Obituary of Meadowlark Marcum

A funeral service for Meadowlark Marcum, 58, of Louisville, KY will be Saturday, April 21 at 1 PM at Neurath & Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 1832 W. Market St.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 – 8 PM at the funeral home.  She passed away April 12, 2018, from complications from liver cancer.

Born Betty Mae King on April 17, 1959 in Cincinnati, OH to Dewey Edward King and Frances Audrey Scott.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Lynne Dupuis and a brother Hugh Darrell Miller.    

She is survived by her husband, George Marcum, whom she married September 20, 1980 in Louisville, KY.  She is also survived by her siblings: Laurie Shanaver of Detroit MI, Leslie Canavan of Iron Mountain, MI, and Debbie Faye King of Little Rock, AK, Charles Hale, of Saco Maine, and William Short of Florida; sisters in law, Celia Gilpin (Gary), and Sandra Dittmier (Ray); brothers in law, Bill Marcum and Ernest Marcum (Jenny Harmony) and several cousins in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. 

She was a member of the Shawnee Kentucky Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Meadowlark was proud of her Native American heritage (Cherokee/Powhattan). She enjoyed going to Native American gatherings and powwows.  She also enjoyed reading, writing, and spending time with her furry kids Matoaka, Moriah, and Leah.
